SunPower to Expand into Austin, Texas

SunPower unveiled its plans to operate from a bigger new office location in Austin, Texas, utilizing an investment of $2.5 million received from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF). As per the clauses of the incentive agreement, the received funding will be utilized to introduce over 450 local jobs over the ensuing four years.

The officials of the state and Austin have succeeded in earmarking the area required for the development of the company in North America. The company has set its eyes and chooses to expand into Austin area due to the availability of the city and state incentives for its expansion program. The other factors that influenced the company for setting up its Austin operations include proximity to the proficiency of semiconductor industry, number of educational institutions that can spread the clean energy awareness and above all the competent workforce of the state.

Tom Werner, SunPower’s CEO, praised the efforts of the governor of the state and mayor of the city and the officials of the city who assisted in the expansion program of the company by offering economic incentives. He mentioned that the state has enough solar potential to lead the solar market with the introduction of right solar policies across the state. He added that such an assurance from the state will significantly improve the investments in the growing solar industry of the state and consequently create a number of jobs.
