Estonian Government Approves New Renewable Energy Plan

The renewable energy activity plan in Estonia through the year 2020 has been approved by its government. As a result, the contribution of renewable energy to the total power consumption in the country will increase by 25%.

The Estonian government has targeted to complete 19.4% of the project by next year. Ando Leppiman,  head of the renewable energy division of Eesti Energia, stated that this plan will encourage the energy companies to focus on renewable energy. However, the cuts to be imposed in subsidies will discourage the interest, Leppiman noted.

As per the new draft of the government for the legal act on subsidies, approximately 0.06 euro for each kilowatt hour produced from the green resource will be guaranteed to be given to companies by the state.
