New Analysis Says Biofuel Increases GHG Emissions

Research and Markets has released a new analysis report on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from biofuel. The research found that biofuel usage increases the GHG emissions, when considering the impact of land being converted into cropland.

According to the analysis, usage of corn-based ethanol increases the GHG emissions by two times over 30 years, while increasing the emissions for about 167 years. The research also found that biofuels produced from switchgrass brings a 50% increase in emissions.

The research states that previous analyses on biofuels did not focus on the carbon emissions generated as farmers converted grassland and forest into cropland to grow biofuel. The in-depth analysis on GHG emissions from biofuel focuses on both negative and positive aspects. Other aspects, covered by the report, include information on global warming and GHG, and basics of biofuel.
