Fluid Process Equipment, a provider of solutions for fluid handling needs, announced that it has installed 90 solar panels that will help in decreasing electricity costs by over 50%. Ross Draper, the company’s engineer, led the research in finding whether alternative energy might provide cost savings.
Draper stated that Fluid Process Equipment’s owner, Glyn Lake, told his employees to find out ways for saving money. He added that solar generates energy even during cloudy days. It also does not feature parts that need maintenance such as a wind turbine.
Fluid Process Equipment was attracted by a Consumers Energy program that offers the company 37.5 cents for a kilowatt-hour of electricity generated by the solar panels. Consumers Energy and other facilities in Michigan are required to generate 10% of energy from renewable sources.
Fluid Process Equipment’s solar panels are anticipated to generate 26.5 kilowatts of electricity in a year. Draper commented that if Consumers Energy opens for a second round of incentives, the company would procure panels to generate another 16 kW. The solar panels, developed by Solon, were deployed by Solar Winds Power Systems.
