Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, at Ellicott City, has been granted $50,000 award along with Federal Hill Preparatory School in Baltimore City, to study the use of wind energy resource in school. Both the schools will explore an applied science project to assess whether installing a wind turbine will meet the energy requirements of the two schools.
The funding released under the initiative of ‘Energy to Educate’ program of Constellation Energy is aimed at new projects that allow energy improvement based on the knowledge of the students in the usage of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The program has contributed a total amount of $350,000 towards 10 projects to be completed by communities that come under the Constellation Energy business area. A report from Constellation Energy indicates that the funding will sustain a range of initiatives, which include projects that assesses the feasibility of installing wind turbines at local schools or formulating and constructing a self-supporting solar powered house.
Mayo A. Shattuck III, Constellation Energy’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, said that E2 funding program launched during the American Education Week highlights the need for imparting the children with quality education, while allowing them to understand the imminent energy challenges. He added that the project will assist the children in exploring alternative ways to move towards a more secure, resourceful and low carbon discharging renewable energy system while continuing their learning skills on science and math subjects, to enable them to participate in the upcoming global markets.
