SunPower to Install Two Solar Systems in San Diego

SunPower, San Jose, California-headquartered company providing solar technology products, declared that it is constructing solar power modules for the Fallbrook Public Utilities District (FPUD) in San Juan, Water District and (SJWD) in Placer County San Diego County. The proposed systems will incorporate high power solar modules manufactured by SunPower and is anticipated to function in the first half of 2011.

The FPUD project is funded by the small interest levying Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds and was made possible through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The project planed over an 8 acre location will incorporate 1.1 MW ground located solar power systems fitted with SunPower Solar panels along with its patented SunPower T20 Trackers to maximize power generation capability. Unlike the conventional fixed-tilt type of solar panels, the solar trackers will always track the movement of the sun all through the day and maintain the solar panels to face the sun thus allowing up to 30% increased energy capture, while cutting down the land requirement for the installation of panels.

The 794 kW solar system to be installed by SunPower for SJWD will meet nearly 89% of the power requirement of the water treatment plant. The system complete with SunPower solar panels and SunPower T20 Solar Tracker will increase the energy efficiency of the system by 25% to benefit the water treatment plant.
