Southeast Renewable Energy will construct a biomass energy plant in South Carolina’s Kershaw County. The investment for the project is $50 million. The renewable energy facility will create 20 new jobs over five years.
The biomass power plant will have a capacity of 15 MW. Timber residues will be used as the feedstock for the plant. The company has scheduled to complete the project by 2012.
Further, Southeast Renewable Energy has already planned to develop similar projects in Allendale County, and Dorchester County in the state. For the projects, the company has entered into a 30-year deal with Santee Cooper for selling renewable power.
The Kershaw County Council Chairman, Max Ford, stated that Southeast Renewable Energy will become a part of the strong local timber industry in the county. This project should set the stage for investments from other companies in the future, he noted.
