mp-tec, an Eberswalde company founded in 2002, has provided its Skytrap tracking system to the first Danish Solar farm in Nordborg in Denmark. The solar farm is under construction and plans for opening it in early 2011 are being considered. The single axis tracking system will operate with optoelectronic control and its highly sensitive sensor cells respond even at very low global irradiation levels.
According to mp-tec CTO, Roland Wenzel, the Skytrap tracker positions the solar modules to face the brightest and hence the maximum energy rich spot in the sky, which would increase the yield by up to 30% even when the sun is not directly visible in the sky. This is a great advantage and Skytrap’s optimized method is of great use.
Linak, a linear drive technology supplier, was highly impressed by mp-tec development team’s effort to make an efficient and long lasting drive, which is also maintenance free. The solar farm would supply the generated electricity to Linak’s production unit, which is located nearby. After the installation is completed the facility is expected to generate 90,000 kW hours of power per year with a reduction of 10% of CO2 emissions per year. Linak is also planning to focus on biogas, electric vehicles and wind energy in the future.
