NextEra Energy Resources to Buy 40 MW Solar Projects from First Solar

NextEra Energy Resources, an auxiliary company of NextEra Energy, declared that it has contracted an accord with First Solar to buy four of its solar photovoltaic projects with a total power production capability of 40 MW located in Ontario, Canada.

In accordance with the terms of the contract First Solar will persist with the development of Sombra and Moore Solar projects and utilize its sophisticated thin film solar modules for construction. Each of the solar plant will incorporate two 10 MW solar PV plants. On receiving necessary approvals from the government, all the four projects are expected to begin their construction in the first quarter of the year 2011 and will commence commercial production by the end of the year 2011. On commissioning, NextEra Energy Resources, the auxiliary company of NextEra Energy, Canada, will own all the four projects and operate them. The power generated from the facilities will be traded with Ontario Power Authority after contracting a long term accord.

The projects located in Moore and Sombra townships in Ontario will utilize thin film expertise and fixed tilt type of solar installation. Each of the 10 MW installations will incorporate over 172,000 solar panels. All the four solar plants will generate enough energy to power over 6,440 houses. The power generated from the solar plants will offset nearly 45,000 tons carbon dioxide emissions per year, which can be equated to keeping 8,600 cars off the road every year all through the life time of the project.
