Canadian Solar, SkyPower Sign EPC Contract for Two Solar Projects

Canadian Solar Solutions, an auxiliary of Canadian Solar, declared that it has contracted an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) accord with SkyPower a solar projects developing company.

The signed accord will enable Canadian Solar Solutions to put into operation two solar parks located in Ontario with a total production capability of 18.5 MW. SkyPower has earlier entered into a financial agreement with Deutsche Bank to close the deal of the two projects.

The first solar project of the company nick named as First Light I, has a power generation capability of 10.5 MW and is located in Napanee. It is the first fully functional solar park in Canada and the first solar power project of SkyPower. The Napanee solar project will incorporate 47, 710 CS6P high efficiency polycrystalline modules. The 8.5 MW solar park situated in Thunder Bay, Ontario is the second project of the company and will incorporate 36, 972 CS6P high efficiency monocrystalline solar modules.

Both the solar power projects are expected to get completed in the middle of 2011. The projects together will produce around 19 million kWh of solar power in the first full year of functioning and will generate around 400 million kWh over the next 20 years. The power generated from the facilities can be utilized to power around 33,000 homes and it can be compared to preventing discharge of carbon dioxide emissions from 60,000 cars by removing them from roads for the 20 period of the project.
