Solar Millennium, an auxiliary company of Solar Trust of America, has got the final judgment from California Energy Commission (CEC) for its Palen Solar Power Project with a power production capability of 500 MW.
The project sited at Riverside County, California, will put up two solar power production plants each with 250 MW power generation capabilities. The power generated from the plants is adequate to meet the electricity requirements of nearly 150,000 houses every year.
The company has made an application to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for a 5,200-acre Right-of Way (ROW) land situated north of the U.S. Interstate-10 around 30 miles west of Blythe City, California. The place is located close to a 1,000 MW Blythe solar thermal power plant construction undertaken by Solar Trust of America. The Palen project on receiving sanction for its ROW Grant Application in spring of 2011 will improve the sanctioned solar power projects portfolio of Solar Trust America in California by 1,500 MW.
The current construction of the project is expected to generate over 1,100 direct job opportunities in Southern California and a number of allied opportunities all over United States. The project when completed will offset nearly one-and-half megaton of carbon dioxide discharges every year. The dry-cooling technology to be deployed in the project will consume 90% less water when compared to the wet-cooled type of solar power generation installations.
