National Clean Fuels Builds Biomass Plant in Port Gibson

The Center for Environment, Commerce & Energy, an affiliate of National Clean Fuels (NACF), has conducted a scoping visit to the biomass plant site in Port Gibson, Mississippi. The biomass-to-electricity plant will be built by both the companies.

The President of the Center for Environment, Commerce & Energy, Norris McDonald, had a meeting with the representatives of Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association and South Mississippi Electric Power Association. McDonald discussed the requirements of grid interconnection and a power purchase agreement for the biomass plant. The companies expect the biomass plant to produce enough energy to redistribute over the grid in and around Port Gibson.

During the visit, McDonald also had a meeting with the staff and faculty of Alcorn State University. The Center for Environment, Commerce & Energy, and NACF plan to negotiate for a lease to construct and operate the biomass power plant in Alcorn State. McDonald said he has planned to meet the president of Alcorn State for the negotiations in January.

The biomass power plant at Port Gibson will produce electricity by gasifying woodchips and sawdust to run the turbine. NACF has already signed a letter of intent with  Port Gibson city to design plans for the solar and biomass power production across the municipality.
