Boralex in partnership with two county municipalities has been awarded two wind projects of 25 MW capacities each. The two counties are Témiscouata and La Côte-de-Beaupré and the contracts were given after a call for tenders for 250 MW wind energy was issued for community projects.
The Séminaire de Québec completely owns the Seigneurie de Beaupré land on, which the La Côte-de-Beaupré community wind farm is to be located. The site is far away from residential and urban zones and would gain a lot from the development of the wind farm. It is expected to commence by late 2015. The Témiscouata community wind project is to be developed on public land in the Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata municipality and would make use of the nearby transmission lines and lack of permanent residences on the site and this project is expected to start by the end of 2014.
According to Patrick Lemaire, CEO and President of Boralex, both the projects would strengthen Boralex’s existence in the wind energy sector in Quebec. He also mentioned that the contracts will make sure that many areas in Quebec would profit from the economic benefits, which would arise from the wind power production. Boralex along with their partners would begin environmental impact evaluations in 2011, and would also conduct public discussions. The wind farms would be utilizing Enercon technology. Enercon is a Québec wind turbine manufacturer with a global reputation and has extensive knowledge in this field.
Boralex with a 300 strong employee list operates 41 power units in Canada, France and in the US with a total installed capacity of 650 MW. It also has future projects that would add another 300 MW.
