Chief Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, announced at the commissioning of the water borehole project provided for the Ibute-Nze community in the Udi Local Government Area, recently, that around 25 communities within Enugu West had so far benefitted from the water project that formed part of his constituency projects.

According to him, the next project he will be taking up in order to improve the living conditions of the rural population was to provide streetlights powered by solar energy. Chief Ekweremadu said that he had started the projects to further the efforts of Governor Sullivan Chime in improving the lives of the people.

Water Borehole Project

He said that the streetlight, roads and electricity projects were being initiated by the governor, while he had begun the water project because the people had stated that their immediate need was clean drinking water. He was confident that with all the projects being undertaken simultaneously the living conditions in the area would definitely be enhanced. The solar energy powered street lighting would be extended to all parts of the zone.

Around 12 erosion control projects, besides various inter-community roads that connect the communities to major roadways, had already been contracted for immediate implementation.

Besides these projects, adult literacy and widowhood programmes are also in place. The traditional ruler Igwe Nodlim Eze had earlier applauded Chief Ekweremadu and said that he appreciated the water project that had gone a long way in alleviating the water scarcity in the area.
