National Grid Establishes Three Solar Power Generating Plants

National Grid, a mammoth electric power utility company in Massachusetts, has unveiled the completion of three new solar power generating projects providing enough power to supply 470 homes. The solar plants are located in Everett, Revere and Haverhill.

The three solar power generating plants were constructed at a cost of around $15 million. The plants are constructed under the Green Communities Act, which encourages growth of renewable energy. The energy act introduced by the Governor of the State , Deval Patrick, last year empowers solar utility companies to own and operate solar power plants up to 50 MW production capability.

The plant located at Everett was commissioned for power generation during the earlier part of this month and the other plants at Haverhill and Revere are expected to be operational before the end of 2010.
