Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Plans to Use Solar Lights for Stadium

The Municipal Corporation of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, has unveiled its plans to erect solar lighting systems at the Sardar Patel Stadium located in Navrangpura and its new building at the main office.

The installation when completed will allow the municipality to save over four lakh rupees in its payment towards electricity bill.

The proposal received clearance from the state government and Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), a state unit in assisting the Municipality to execute the project at the proposed places. The corporation also has plans to install solar lights in the Memco-Sports complex and in the gardens located in the city by availing the central solar grants available for such installations without making any investment of its own.

According to IP Gautam, Ahmedabad’s Municipal Commissioner, the submitted proposal has already received the concurrence of the energy and petrochemical department of the state government last month. He added that the proposed installation will allow the corporation to utilize the stadium at night for arranging various cultural programs.
