Kyocera to Export Solar Cells to Thailand

Kyocera, a Japan-based electronic company, signed an accord with Solar Power, a company based in Thailand, to provide 204.000 kW of solar cells. The total value of this accord is estimated to be around $359 million.

Kyocera will produce around 1 million polysilicon solar cells in its factory in Japan and send them by shipping to the company in Thailand in a period of three to four years. The order considered to be one of the biggest and surpassed the earlier order of 73,000 kW received by Sharp. Kyocera had earlier provided 6,000 kW solar cells to Solar Power. From its 5th position in the world solar market in 2008 the company is pulled to the seventh position due to domination of the solar markets by the Chinese and USA companies.

The company has proposals to augment its production capability by 50% to reach 600,000 kW in 2011 and further increase it to 1 million kW by March 2013.
