Indian Village to Use Clean Biogas Energy

Idkidu, a small hamlet located in Dakshina Kannada District in India, contributes its might to reduce global warming by utilizing ecologically friendly bio-gas. The village has over 700 families and is well acknowledged for its community improvement activities.

Over the years, the village has made advancements related to water conservation, dairy development and cooperative movements and is trying to achieve self-sufficiency.

The village has over 300 members in its three cooperative milk societies called Amruta Varshini, Amruta Sindhu and Amruta Dhara. The members supply around eight lakh litres of milk to the society every year and earn over one crore rupees per annum. More than 120 families have constructed biogas plants at their back yards to generate and use biogas energy and a number of others are planning to have one. Only a limited number of families in the village have LPG connection.

The cooperative dairy while enabling the villagers to achieve self-sufficiency also allows them to use clean biogas energy.
