Bharat Heavy Electricals to Install Solar Power Plant for Indiabulls

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), an India-based government company, declared that it has received orders for three turnkey type of solar installation contracts worth 6 MW under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission of the country.

The contracts valued around INR 780 million require the company to install three grid linked solar PV power plants, each with a power production capability of 2 MW for its client Indiabulls. One of the 2 MW solar plants will be located in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh and the other two each with  2 MW capacity will be located in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

As required by Indiabulls, the solar plants will incorporate crystalline photovoltaic technology for its proven exposure and quality. The power absorbed by the solar panels will be converted to electric power and transported to the main grid. The plant will also incorporate batteries to store the solar power in DC form to convert it into AC for feeding it latter into the grid by utilizing transformers. The contracted agreement will require BHEL to design the plant structure, produce and supply the required materials, erect and complete the installation and continue to provide the operational and maintenance services for all the three solar plants. The installations of all the three solar plants are anticipated to be completed by 2011.

The company is presently building a 3 MW grid linked solar power plant, near Raichur in North Karnataka for Karnataka Power Corporation and has received an order to set up a 1,100 kW solar plant in Lakshadweep Islands, India.
