Solar Energy Requirement Increases in Tunisia

Solar energy utilization in Tunisia is on the rise. Home owners have invested in solar water heaters and solar rooftops to power their homes and also reduce electricity bills.

The number of users is forecasted to increase, with 235 new applicants seeking grants from the National Fund for Energy Control (FNME).

Mr Abdelaziz Rassaa, the Secretary of State in control of Food Industries and Renewable Energy, led a meeting to discuss the project’s progress at the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Mr Rassaa voiced his support for introducing the stake holder’s plans for renewable energy development leading to a decrease in Tunisia’s energy bills.

ANME’s Director General, Mrs Noura Laroussi, said that around 51 companies that install have qualified for the energy management agency’s program.

For customers who consume over 5000 kW hours, an installation of a 1 kW Photovoltaic will help save 330 to 400 dinars in annual STEG bills. The installer will benefit from 10% premium of the investment cost due to the Italian Co-operation. The 5-year credit period will also help get back the STEG amount bill. These reimbursements will be granted to residential customers who own their homes. Home owners interested in installation of solar energy products should contact the qualified company installers.
