A 161-megawatt wind farm is to be constructed near Amarillo in Texas. The farm covering an area of 20,000 acres is to contain 110 wind turbines for power generation.
The Austin American-Statesman, quoting the developers said that the generated power would be sufficient for 54,000 homes.
Xcel, the Midwest energy giant, announced that it would purchase the wind-generated power for a period of 15 years.
Spinning Spur Wind , a subsidiary of Cielo Wind Energy, announced that the tax deals it had made with the local and federal authorities are helping it to execute the 20,000 acre wind farm project. Hornaday, Cielo’s President and Chief Executive Officer, added that the worked out tax deals have helped the project make it worthwhile for Xcel ratepayers.
The Globe-News reports that the wind farm construction is expected to commence in July 2011. It also added that the farm project would lead to the creation of about 200 construction jobs.
