Xtreme Power, supplier of Dynamic Power Resources (DPR) for integrated power management and energy storage systems for utility-level power companies, and Xcel Energy, an electric power and natural gas business have entered into a joint venture to establish a 1 MW solar system at Solar Technology Acceleration Center (SolarTAC) to get functional data on integrating solar energy systems with energy storage systems.
The partnership will utilize the private testing facility of SolarTAC in Aurora, Colorado, which is used by the other solar companies to test a range of their solar technology products.
The proposed project is anticipated to provide pragmatic results in combining the power storage systems with solar power installations to improve the efficiency of linking the power generated by the renewable energy sources into power grids. The results of the project will be made known to every one to speculate the performance of a system over a period of three years. In the testing process, Xtreme Power manufactured, DPR has been deployed to carry out a number of functions such as regulating the output, reducing the solar forecast and time shifting errors for the solar power produced at the site.
Both the companies are planning to utilize the test results to emphasize the benefits offered by the battery energy storage systems to the photovoltaic producers, project developing companies and power producers and how the generated energy can be used more effectively and how the storage systems can be utilized commercially.
