Siemens, a supplier of a range of renewable energy products, declared that it has obtained the largest onshore wind turbine supply order from MidAmerican Energy; a Des Moines, Iowa-headquartered utility company in the USA.
The signed accord will require Siemens to supply a total number of 258 wind turbines each with a power production capability of 2.3 MW for a number of wind farms located in Iowa. The wind turbines with a total power generation capability of 593 MW will generate enough power to meet the electricity requirements of around 190,000 households in the USA.
According to René Umlauft, Siemens Renewable Energy Division’s CEO, the company leads the worldwide offshore wind power generation market and remains highly productive in its onshore installations. He added that the company has recently entered into a framework accord with Enel Green Power to supply 260 wind turbines for installation in a number of wind farms spread all over Europe. He explained that the USA order for 258 offshore wind turbines will enable the company to become one among the top three wind turbine providing company by 2012.
In 2010, the company has earned around EUR28 billion from its renewable energy products thus making it the biggest provider of renewable energy expertise in the world. During the period the renewable energy products provided by the company has reduced the carbon dioxide emissions to the level of 270 million tons, which can be equated to the total carbon dioxide emissions from the worlds biggest cities such as Singapore, Hong Kong, New Delhi, London, Tokyo and New York.
