First Philec Solar to Construct Rooftop Solar System for SunPower

In order to meet the growing demand for solar energy projects, the First Philec Solar, a Philippines-based company has contracted an accord with Sunpower, a solar cell producing company based in the US.

The clauses of the contract include setting up of a 1 MW solar power generation facility over the rooftop of the Sunpower cell production plant at Tanuan in Batangas.

The proposed solar power plant of Sunpower is anticipated to be one among the largest rooftop solar installation in the country. It is also the first of its kind utility level solar power project in Luzon, the largest island in Philippines. Earlier, First Philec has completed a 180 kW rooftop solar power plant in the country. The 1 MW solar power plant in Philippines is managed by Cagayan Electric Power and Light (CEPALCO), and currently it supplies the generated power to Cagayan de Oro City. CEPALCO solar facility incorporates ground mounted solar power panels.

According to Philippine Solar Power Association, the country enjoys good support for solar power generation and has continued flow of investments. The country is yet to announce its feed-in-tariff rates to guarantee the purchase of power produced from renewable energy sources.
