First Solar Enters Agreement to Develop Solar Plant in Inner Mongolia

First Solar announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with China Guangdong Nuclear Solar Energy Development (CGN SEDC), for a solar power plant in Inner Mongolia. The company has entered into understanding for joint development of the phase I of the solar plant in Ordos.

As per the agreement, both organizations will work to implement the phase I 30 MW demonstration project. CGN SEDC will perform the engineering, procurement and construction of the project. The thin-film solar panels will be supplied by First Solar. The company will also assist CGN SEDC in O&M as well as engineering, procurement and construction services.

The agreement follows the approval from the Chinese government for pre-feasibility study for the project’s phase I, in September 2010. First Solar had also signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Ordos in September 2009. This project is the first large-scale solar project partnership between the US and China.
