Metso to Provide Biomass Power Plant to Oü Helme Energia

Metso, a worldwide provider of sustainable energy technology, has contracted an accord with Oü Helme Energia, a subsidiary of AS Graanul Invest, to supply a biomass power plant for combined production of heat and power.

Total value of the order is estimated to be more than EUR 15 million and the plant is expected to commence its operations in the third quarter of 2012.

Metso is planning to deliver the plant through its joint venture company MW Power. The scope of delivery requires the company to provide a plant automation system, which the company plans to supply through its Automation business line of business. The power plant will incorporate bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) technology and will utilize a mix of chipped logging residues, spruce bark and wood chips or milled peat as its key fuel.

The plant is designed to generate 6.4 MW of electric power and 15 MW heat. The power generated by the facility will be utilized by the pellet factory of the client and the unused power will be linked to the national grid.
