Vestas has completed the year 2010 with robust sales of wind turbines in North America. The company had secured 15 orders that comprise 871 wind turbines totaling 1,883 MW. This was the best sales record for the company since its entry in the North American market in 1981. Earlier in 2007, the company had registered sales of 1,554 MW.
Vestas secured 10 orders totaling 1,513 MW from US-based clients and five orders totaling 370 MW from Canada-based clients. The company’s single largest order was 190 pieces of V90-3.0 MW turbines to Terra-Gen’s Alta Wind Energy Center located in California. The company also signed a five-year service renewal contract with Puget Sound Energy in Washington for 429 MW.
Vestas generated about 700 new jobs in e Colorado state in 2010. The blade factory in Windsor had created 200 new jobs in 2010, while its nacelle factory in Brighton had created 220 jobs. The tower plant in Pueblo, established in 2010, has included 300 more people to its payroll in 2010.
Vestas launched a new engineering office in Louisville, Colorado in July 2010 to enhance technology for available Vestas wind turbines and develop next-generation wind-power systems. In total, Vestas has nearly 3,000 workers in North America to offer installation and maintenance services for its clients spread across 20 US states and l 10 Canadian provinces.
Vestas will establish its second blade factory in Brighton in 2011. The new facility will create at least 600 jobs once it starts production. The new facility will produce blades for the latest V112-3.0 MW that was introduced in the market in 2010.
