UNESCO Grant for Renewable Energy Research

The UNESCO, (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation), has sanctioned funding of $15.3 million to the Kwara State University (KWASU).

Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, vice chancellor of the university, reiterated that the funding would go towards setting up of the UNESCO Chair for Alternative Energy Research programme, which will concentrate on in depth research, awareness programmes at the grassroots level, intellectual studies and new inventions.

Also researched will be subjects like biomass digestion, waste-to-energy, solar, wind, biomass briquette, bio-fuel and floating wind farm energy, all of which will address the growing need for the development of alternative energy sources and the fulfillment of Vision 20:20. Extensive funding will come from regional, national and international avenues through inter university and private industry partnerships.
