Nexolon Company Chooses GT Solar International for Expansion Program

GT Solar International, a worldwide supplier of expertise and products required for LED, Solar and other exclusive type of markets, declared that it has obtained the first order for its newly developed and patented DSS650 multicrystalline ingot growth system from Nexolon, a Korea-based photovoltaic systems manufacturing company. The company has plans to include the $37.5 million signed accord in its backlog for the first quarter of 2011.

The DSS650, a latest product in GT Solar’s series of DSS multicrystalline ingot growth systems enables production of ingots in 600 kilograms or more weight by utilizing the same chamber size of DSS450 and DSS450HP systems. The DSS650 delivers high value materials normally expected from the multicrystalline growth furnaces of GT Solar. The new DSS650 can be implemented by the clients by upgrading their existing systems to avail the benefit of increased throughput. The new DSS650 while enabling higher throughput and yield when compared to the earlier models also allows reduction in costs of consumables. The bigger sized ingot manufactured by DSS650 also betters the wafer slicing operations in downstream and enables the clients to manufacture taller bricks that can maximize the silicon loads in the proximity of wafer slicing saws.

According to Tom Gutierrez, president and CEO of GT Solar, Nexolon has remained as the beta partner of the company during the development of DSS650 program and offered valued inputs for the establishment of the new product and expressed his happiness about the choice of multicrystalline ingot growth systems by Nexolon in their capacity development options.
