Glimcher Realty Trust, a real estate investment trust, has declared its designs to install a roof top solar power generating system over the roof top of Jersey Gardens, located in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
The proposed 4.9 MW solar system will produce enough power to supplement nearly 11% of the energy consumed by the mall. The company is planning to complete the installation in association with Gerding Edlen Development, a green energy building company, and Gerding Edlen Sustainable Solutions, an auxiliary company of Gerding Edlen, a renewable energy developing and financing company.
For the purpose of achieving its solar initiative, the company has signed a power purchase accord with Clean Focus, a company that formulates, funds and manages solar power installations for the companies in utility, government and commercial segments. In accordance with the signed accord, Clean Focus will fund, install and own the solar systems and will avail all the environmental benefits and solar credits related to the system. Jersey Gardens will get the benefit of purchasing the electric power generated by the system at a pre-fixed known price, thus allowing the company protection against future rise in prices without making any investment for the purchase of the system.
The proposed rooftop solar system at the Jersey Gardens will be formulated erected and managed by SunPower, an American Company. SunPower is planning to install its T5 Solar Roof Tile, a non-penetrating type of pre-engineered system that combines the solar panel, mounting system and the frame into a single unit. The system will be installed in a 5° tilted angle to receive more energy for increased power generation.
