Toronto to get Biodiesel Manufacturing Plant

Energy Innovation (EIC), an Ontario firm plans to open the first ever biodiesel manufacturing plant in the portlands in Toronto.

EIC plans to work along with the property owner, Toronto Port Lands (TPLC) and Invest Toronto and has chosen an 8600 Sq Foot facility located on the Unwin Avenue for the production of biodiesel, which would also fulfill the Renewable Energy fuel targets of the Federal Government.

Its first complete manufacturing unit would open in 2011 spring with a capacity of producing 10 million liters of biodiesel annually. This domestic biodiesel production would help Canada to meet its power requirements eliminating the need to import fuels and at the same time decrease emissions of soot, CO2 and green house gases by 99%. Furthermore the facility would lead to the creation of 12 full time jobs in the portlands. Including the Unwin Avenue facility, a total of eight biodiesel production facilities are being planned by EIC, which would be located in and around the province.
