PPC Plans to Take on a Strategic Partner for Solar Plant

Greece’s principal utility, Public Power (PPC), is on the look out for a strategic partner to construct a 200 MW PV solar energy Park at Kozani in Northern Greece.

According to Arthouros Zervos, the Chief Executive Officer of PPC, along with the $810 million (600 million Euros) renewable energy project, an associated panel factory would also be built. He commented that this initiative would go a long way to match the nation’s energy policy and also help in the growth of the local community.

By the summer of this year, a suitable partner would be chosen, and the end of this year would see the beginning of the construction work on this project. It plans to complete the project in 18 months, during, which 350 temporary jobs would be created and also 200 permanent posts. This solar park would also reduce 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The Prime Minister of Greece, George Papandreou, has stated that the clean green growth would assist the nation to triumph over the economic crisis, which it is currently facing. The predictions for the economy reveal that 2011 would again see a 3 % decline before it goes upwards in 2012.

Zervos disclosed that PPC in 2015 has a plan of investing 1.8 billion euros in the West Macedonian region where unemployment was prevalent with a rate of 17.2% in October 2010, as revealed by Hellenic Statistical Authority.
