Major OEMs Lease Fuel Cell Vehicles

Research and Markets offers "The Fuel Cell Vehicle and Hydrogen Infrastructure Report".  The report analyses the different types of fuel cell vehicles available and also those under development.

Abstract Fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) can help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other toxic emissions. They can also help reduce smog levels in cities. These vehicles utilize replacement fuels for the progressively depleting petroleum. Due to these advantages many countries provide incentives for development, as well as for use of fuel cell vehicles.

The report identifies major hurdles affecting the usage of FCVs. Cost of battery packs and fuel cell stacks are high. Hydrogen re-fuelling infrastructure is not available in many places. Challenges exist in storage of hydrogen onboard vehicles. The durability and reliability of FCVs are also under doubt.

The Fuel Cell Vehicle report finds that many concept, demonstration and prototype vehicles have been developed despite hurdles. Major OEMs have also leased FCVs for demonstration trials. Serial production may begin by 2015.
