John Brown University to Install Wind Turbine

John Brown University is constructing a new 3.5 kW wind turbine in the campus for educational purposes for students pursuing renewable energy. The Siloam Springs city grid will have the wind turbine tied to it for powering the trail lights in the university.

The 60-foot wind turbine would generate 2000-3000 kW of power annually. To meet the issues associated with the permit and land-use for the wind turbine, JBU has coordinated with the city of Siloam Springs.

Sonkyo Energy, a Spanish manufacturer, has donated the Windspot Turbine to the university, as part of a research partnership. The students and the faculty of the renewable energy course will perform a one year study of the turbine production over the prescribed wind conditions. The turbine will be set up on the west side of the university campus next to the Engineering and Construction Management building site.
