ACAL Energy to Install FlowCath Fuel Cell Technology for Solvay Interox

ACAL Energy along with its development associates is getting the ground works ready for the installation of FlowCath fuel cell system for Solvay Interox. The company utilizes FlowCath fuel cell technology for the system that is to be installed at the Warrington site of Solvay Interox.

The company is planning to install the field trial system in the summer of 2011. The new system will be utilized by Solvay Interox as a back-up power facility for a vital ecological redress plant at Warrington. The new installation will allow ACAL Energy and its partners to realize the functioning of a real-time back up system powered by the new FlowCath fuel cell engine power. The incorporated technology is anticipated to lessen the balance of plant costs by obviating the requirements of sub-systems for pressurization, hydration, cooling and other mechanical sub-systems associated with the use of PEM fuel cells.

Presently, ACAL is in the process of finalizing the cost-effective design of the module and the related validation activities in its testing facilities to meet the demands of the performance target and the low cost of the system thus making the product commercially marketable. The company is ably supported by its partners such as UPS Systems, Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells, Manufacturing engineering center at Cardiff University and the University of Southampton. The Technology Strategy Board funds the project partially.
