The National Audubon Society’s endeavors during the Gulf Oil spill last year has earned its gift in the form of solar installation from REC Solar, a California-based company.
The not for profit society during the oil spill sent its volunteers to assist in the restoration of the ecosystem, collected details and rescued birds from the oil spill. When REC wanted to honor the efforts of the society and volunteered to offer a donation of $25,000, the society sought for solar panels instead of money.
REC Solar has donated a 10 kW solar system comprising 45 solar roof panels. The solar panels were installed at the Society’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary located in Naples. The installation was carried out by Sunshine Solar Services, a Fort Lauderdale-based company. Each of the solar panels installed in the system will generate around 225 W of clean power and will reduce the carbon footprint of the 13,000-acre sanctuary.
According to Ed Carlson, the director of the sanctuary the installation of solar panels will reduce the spending of the sanctuary towards electricity and will allow the sanctuary to divert the funds for other usages.
