Georgia Power Enters Solar Power Purchase Agreement with Dalton Utilities

Georgia Power declared that it has acquired ownership of a number of solar projects up to 1 MW power production capability in Murray County, GA. The solar projects are jointly developed by Mack Creek Energy and United Renewable Energy.

For constructing the plant to be located on Looper Bridge Road in Dalton, Georgia Power has entered into a land lease agreement with Dalton Utility, a local utility company. Georgia Power intends to sell 100% of the power generated from the facility at a wholesale rate to Dalton Utility under a 25 year power purchase accord and all the renewable energy credits accrued from the installation will be transferred to the name of Dalton Utilities. United Renewable Energy is involved in the construction of the solar plant.

Georgia Power has planned to complete the construction of the solar power facility in phases and each phase will generate around 350 kW of solar power. The company holds the option to complete the construction of the other two phases each with 350 kW power generation by January 2014. When all the phases are completed, the power generated from the facility will meet the electricity requirements of around 400 households in Georgia. The first phase of the construction is anticipated to commence its commercial production in spring 2011.
