Ormat Technologies Builds Geothermal Facility in Reno, Nevada

Geothermal energy firm based in Reno, Nevada, Ormat Technologies, has built a 15-MW geothermal facility in Jersey Valley in the north of the state. The plant is now in commissioning and functioning at partial load, with full completion anticipated in the second quarter of 2011.

The Jersey Valley geothermal facility situated at the northern end of Dixie Valley features the Ormat Energy Converter, a power production unit that transforms high, medium and low temperature heat energy into electrical energy.

Ormat Technologies is financing the geothermal project through corporate debt and equity funding and has plans to refinance the project with DOE guarantee funds upon completion. The company stated that this investment strategy reduced the development time and offered flexibility during development.

President and Chief Operating Officer at Ormat, Yoram Bronicki, stated that the sophisticated technologies and abundant quantities of data, coupled with efficient devices and an inspired team of experts have completed this project successfully.
