Sumitomo to Purchase Solar Power Farms in Italy

The Nikkei business daily has reported that the Japanese trading company Sumitomo will purchase 85% stake in the Italian subsidiaries of a German solar energy company. The deal value is approximately 5 billion yen.

Under the conditions of the acquisition deal, Sumitomo will buy 10 solar power farms that have a total power production capacity of 9,700 kW in southern Italy, the report said.

According to the daily, an Italian government organization will buy the electricity produced from Sumitomo's solar power facilities for the coming 20 years. Following the purchase, the production capacity of Sumitomo will improve to about 30,000 KW, the report stated.

The Nikkei business daily further stated that Sumitomo intends to expand its solar power production capacity to 100,000 KW by the end of the fiscal year 2013 and twofold  by entering into the United States, Middle East and elsewhere.
