Robert Muir, a shopping center developing company, declared that it is powering the Woodbury shopping centers with solar power.
The company is planning to install a total of 130 kW solar power for three of the Woodbury shopping centers this year. Earlier, the company completed a 10 kW solar power installation for the Shoppes of Woodbury Village at the cost of $65,000 and the facility has already started generating power.
The Edina-based, Robert Muir Company is planning to install three solar arrays each capable of producing around 40 kW of solar power over the rooftops of the Woodbury Village Green and Woodbury Village shopping centers. All the four installations planned for Woodbury facilities will cost around $860,000 and will generate enough power to meet nearly 15% power requirement of the facilities. Westwood Professional Services, an Eden Prairie-based company, will install two of the 40 kW solar arrays over the 481,000 square foot Woodbury Village center in March or April and the other array over the 85,000 square foot roof top of the Woodbury Village Green Development later.
Xcel Energy, a public utility company, through its Solar Rewards program will share part of the investment by paying a discount of $2.25 per watt and in return will receive renewable energy credits accrued through the solar power generation. The federal investment tax credits available for solar installation will further lessen the cost of solar installation.
