Natcore Plans to Establish Solar Research, Production Facilities in New York

Natcore Technology, a solar technology firm located in Red Bank, New Jersey, is in discussion with Eastman Kodak to establish a production plant and research laboratory at Eastman Business Park in Rochester, New York.

According to a statement by Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Perinton, President and Chief Executive Officer at Natcore, Charles Provini, stated that the company’s solar cell technology could be ideal for roll-to-roll film production equipment of Eastman Kodak.

Slaughter stated that Natcore has formed joint ventures with Chinese firms. She has requested President Barack Obama and the US Department of Energy to assist Natcore to launch a production center in Rochester.

Slaughter continued that the solar technology of Natcore could produce flexible solar cells that could decrease the expenditure of producing a solar panel and 60% of the time span needed to deploy a commercial solar array. Natcore does not have operations in the New York State. According to the statement, in order to bring in more photovoltaic producers and green jobs to Rochester, Slaughter is asking the energy department to sanction a grant to Kodak to establish a thin film center of excellence at the Eastman Business Park.
