CRANN Attracts €1m Investment from KAUST

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia (KAUST) and CRANN, a Trinity College-based nanotech centre, collaborate for research on solar energy conversion in sustainable and environmentally-friendly ways.

Research collaboration to develop new generation of photovoltaic devices

Solar energy is available in abundance and KAUST and CRANN are working together to harvest this energy. The annual energy consumption of the world is less than an hour’s solar irradiation. The amount of solar energy that the Earth absorbs in a year is more than the energy available from all the other non-renewable sources.

KAUST has sponsored this project with an investment of €1m, and its Sasheen supercomputer will provide computational facilities needed for the project. Researchers and PhD students from KAUST and TCD are to be involved in this project.
