Silk Road Environmental to Install Solar Panels for TRAC

TRAC buildings are to become a solar lab, as solar panels are to be added to the building. The Pasco facility is to have the panels installed at its main expo hall and its pavilion.

The new solar panels have been developed by the Silk Road Environmental of Kennewick and are quite inexpensive.

The general manager of TRAC, Troy Woody, is planning the paneling along with Franklin PUD, Columbia Basin College and Silk Road Environmental. The general manager is also on the lookout for a freestanding solar unit and plans to connect the water heaters and the tanks to the unit.

The solar project will help reduce the cost of gas used for the pavilion from $40,000 to $5,000 that will help TRAC cut down on its annual gas costs.

Columbia Basin College students would get TRAC as solar power powered buildings, helping them get practical experience, and the project could serve as a working lab for CBC’s solar certification program.
