Greenpeace Urges South Africa to Embrace Solar Power Production

A recent report brought by Greenpeace and the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA), advocates the use of solar power in South Africa in order to save the environment, money and to create more job positions.

Greenpeace encourages South Africa to adopt solar power

The report titled, "Solar Generation 6", predicts that worldwide investments in photovoltaic usage will double from the current €35-40 billion to more than €70 billion in the year 2015. The report indicates that prices of photovoltaic that has fallen around 40% from 2005 will fall by the same percentage by the year 2015. The report indicates that solar technology creates around 30 to 50 job positions for every tonne of savings on carbon dioxide discharges and in turn will benefit the economy of South Africa.

According to the estimation provided by Greenpeace Africa, within a period of 20 years South Africa will create nearly 78,000 new job positions in Green energy, will improve its energy security, cut down its carbon dioxide discharges and will remain a leader in renewable energy generation.
