GENCO Joins Four Others to Open Hydrogen Fuel Supply in South Carolina

GENCO, a third-party logistics providing company, declared that it is associating with Kimberly-Clark, Plug Power, Air Products and the Aiken-Edgefield Development Partnership, to establish the first ever multi-use industrial park fueling station to provide hydrogen directly for the use of industrial, government and commercial establishments.

The fueling station will provide hydrogen directly to the 450,000 square-foot distribution facility of Kimberly-Clark currently handled by GENCO ATC and it will be utilized with fuels cells that are used to  power  Toyota forklifts. Both the Kimberly-Clerk facility and the fueling station are situated in the Sage Mill Industrial Park, Graniteville, South Carolina. GENCO ATC utilized $1.1 million of the total $6.1 million cost share award received by it from the U.S. Department of Energy through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

It is estimated that the use of hydrogen fuel cells in place of lead-acid batteries in the 20 trucks will reduce nearly 90% of the greenhouse gas emissions every year.
