Southern California Edison Enters Power Purchase Agreement with First Solar

Southern California Edison (SCE) declared that it has entered into a power purchase agreement with First Solar for250 MW AC solar photovoltaic power generated with photovoltaic panels. The signed accord is subject to approval of the project by the California Public Utilities Commission.

First Solar is developing a ground-mounted solar power generation facility over a 2,500 acre public land area close to Primm, Nevada. The power generation facility named as Silver State South will be connected to the planned Eldorado-Ivanpah 220-kilovolt transmission line of Southern California Edison. On receiving  approval, the project is anticipated to generate power in the early part of 2014 and will be fully functional by May 2017.

The solar power project is expected to generate around 300 construction jobs locally. The proposed form will generate enough green power to offset carbon dioxide emissions, which can be equated to the removal of 30,000 cars from the road every year. The solar panels to be utilized in the project will be recycled after the expiry of their life span.
