Irving Independent School District, declared that it has chosen GridPoint, a smart energy solution providing company to design, fabricate and install a 582 kW solar power system over the rooftop of Lady Bird Johnson Middle School.
The school to be opened in August 2011 will remain the largest net zero-energy school incorporating energy efficient construction and onsite power generation utilizing solar power.
GridPoint is planning to install an exclusive cylindrical type of solar panels known as Solyndra specially designed for installations over commercial rooftops. The weightless non-penetrating type of roof mounting systems endures violent wind conditions and continues to perform better under griming weather. The solar panels installation proposed over the 150,000 square foot roof space of the school will generate more power than required by the school. Each of the solar panel proposed for the construction will include 40 individual modules, connected at equidistant and absorb the solar power over 360„a top photovoltaic surface. The design of the system will allow energy conversion under direct, diffused and reflected sunlight conditions.
The proposed roof-mounted solar power system will also include an intelligent power monitoring solution to record and exhibit the current as well as past energy production. A web interface provided for the purpose will allow close monitoring of the energy production.
