Centrotherm Wins Algerian Solar Project Bid

Centrotherm, the German-based photovoltaic equipment producing company, has won the contract to formulate a major solar plant in Algeria. The proposed solar facility is expected to be placed 30 km east of Algiers, the capital city.

Though there were reports valuing the contract bid as US$408 million, Centrotherm refused them as rumors and claims that the dialogues are still on and no details  on either about the plant or the financial terms are finalized. Nouredine Bouterfa, who heads the government owned power utility, said that they have received a very spirited bidding from the company that can be compared with the level of pricing from China.

The proposed solar power generation facility is one among the latest initiatives of Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s government to achieve 12GW renewable power generating capability by the year 2030.
