SkyPower Signs Accord with Fort William First Nation for Building Solar Park

SkyPower has entered in to an accord with Fort Williams First Nation to develop  a solar power park at Thunder Bay, Ontario. The solar power park will remain Canada’s first ever and the only solar park being developed at a larger scale on First Nation’s Land.

The 10 MW clean solar power generating park planned over nearly 100 acres of land in Fort William first Nation land, in Thunder Bay will incorporate around 45,000 solar panels. Initial construction requirements of the park have begun in the early part of 2011 and SkyPower is currently continuing its construction activities in full swing. The construction of the park is anticipated to get completed by the summer of 2011. The solar park when  fully functional will produce enough renewable energy to power around 17,000 houses every year for a period of around 20 years. The solar farm is anticipated to offset nearly 130,000 tons of CO2 emissions during the 20 year period of the project functioning.

The solar park will considerably bring in enough investments to create over 100 local jobs and other direct and indirect monetary benefits to the region.
