AUO Crystal to Establish Solar Wafer Production Plant in Chungkang Export Processing Zone

AU Optronics declared that its subsidiary company, AUO Crystal ,(ACC) will soon set up a solar wafer production plant in the Chungkang Export Processing Zone, which comes under the Ministry of Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Taiwan.

The establishment of the plant is anticipated to fortify the strategic position of the company for solar products and improve its technical expertise. AUO Crystal is one among the few producers who deploy M.Setek's superior polysilicon production expertise to supply a total solution including polysilicon, ingot and wafer solution to the clients.

In the first phase, AUO Crystal is planning to construct its production facility in the export processing zone over an area of three hectares and will expand it to 8.5 hectare  later. The equipment required for the factory will be moved in the month of August and production in full swing will commence in the fourth quarter of 2011. Initially, the company intends to produce 300 MW worth of multi-crystalline ingots and wafers and has plans to increase the production capability after gauging the market demands.

The company has designs to utilize its patented R&D and smelting engineering of polysilicon to supply superior and efficient materials vital for the solar cell manufacturers. The company also has unveiled its plans to supply a diverse range of products and services to its clients in future.

The new project of the company in the Export Processing Zone of Chungkang is anticipated to generate around 1,000 job positions over a period of three years.
